Historic little Oxford, Georgia was chartered in 1839 by the Methodist Church as birthplace of Emory university.  Today, the City of Oxford is still home to Oxford College of Emory University where about 25 percent of Emory undergrads spend their freshman and sophomore years in the college’s intensive liberal arts programs before completing their degrees at Emory university in Atlanta.

The city has many lovely historic buildings as well as a stricking new City Hall tucked among its towering oak trees, completed in 2011.  The city’s population is just over 2000 except during school terms when the student population boosts that figure by almost another 1000 people.

The Oxford campus is the location where the opening scenes of “The Dukes of Hazzard” were filmed in the late 1970s.  The series ran from 1979 through 1985, starring Tom Wopat, John Schneider and Catherine Bach as Daisy.
